This section
explains all about limit breaks and how they can be used, altered and upgraded.
Limits are special techniques each character can execute when they are low on
HP. When the option to use a limit break appears, an arrow will come up next to
the characters attack command. By pressing the right directional button you can
then choose that limit. Each character has a different kind of limit break, they
are upgraded by weapons or items that you find throughout the game.
When they
can be used
•
When
a character has less than 32% of his/her maximum HP. Seifer can use limit breaks
as soon as his Hp drops below 84% of his maximum.
•
By
using the magic: Aura. This makes the character you use it on glow and by
pressing triangle you can skip through the characters turns until the little
arrow appears next to the attack command.
Sometimes limit breaks can be used earlier depending on how the low party's Hp
is, if a character in the party has been killed (Ko'ed) or is a character is
inflicted by a status abnormality.
How to
Learn New Techniques
•
Squall: He obtains limits automatically when upgrading his current weapon.
Upgrades for his weapon require money, items, a Junk shop and the knowledge
gained by reading a Weapons Monthly Issue Magazine.
•
Quistis: Uses items that various enemies drop after battles.
•
Rinoa: Find and read the Pets Pals Magazines. Open the fourth status menu for
her and move the cursor to a new technique. The screen shows bars. You have to
select one to learn. After having walked so far with Rinoa in the party, the
technique will be learned and will show up as a red bar. Then pick your next
technique.
•
Zell:
Find and read Combat King 001-006 to add new skills for him.
•
Irvine: His shot is determined by the ammunition you buy or find for him. It can
be refined also. the more you have, the more you can shoot.
•
Selphie:
Her limit break is entirely random and magic-orientated. She cannot learn new
techniques but occasionally you will stumble across a few ones that are rare
like "The End" this will be added to the status screen once it is used.
Hint
You can
use limit breaks very easily. You can unequip all your magic that is junctioned.
Your Hp will be very low then. Now equip it all back on and your HP will stay
low in yellow. Now you can start a battle on low Hp and use all your techniques.

You can
set Squalls gunblade auto mode ON or OFF in Squalls fourth status screen.
Since auto mode decreases Squall's accuracy considerably, you might want
to maintain the OFF Setting. |

Skills |
|
Squall
can learn four skills. Rough Divide and Lion Heart attack all enemies,
whereas Blasting Zone and Fated Circle damage one opponent. |

|
|
Squall
launches multiple gunblade attacks against an opponent, sometimes adding a
vastly damaging finishing blow. The types of attacks are chosen by the
game. The number and intensity of his attacks depend on the emergency
factor. You can increase squall's attack power by pressing R1 whenever the
message "Trigger" is displayed during the execution of the limit break
command. |

| When combine appears in Rinoa's menu box you
can either choose Angelo, who will carry out a random attack he has
learned together with Rinoa, or you can choose "Angel wing"
to make Rinoa attack with sorceress power. She now has a the special
status Angel Wing and casts magic randomly (without depleting her
stocks). These attacks cause 5x normal damage. If Rinoa does not
have attack magic she will continuously deal out physical attacks.
Commands are disabled while she executes this limit break. |

Zell hits his target repeatedly with rapid close combat attacks until the
timer reaches 0. skills will appear and can be executed by pressing the
buttons indicated on the screen. A blinking skill indicates that his is
the finishing blow. When you activate this skill the limit break will end
regardless of how much time is left. |

shoot as long as he has the bullets and within the time line. This special

Selphie
uses various combinations of magic at random. If you do not wish to use
magic that appears in the menu box, choose "Do Over" to get a new option.
Otherwise select use to use the magic. Occasionally you will see some rare
magic's, use these if you get the chance.
Full-Cure:
In early Boss fights, this spell will come in handy as it completely
restores your entire party's HP.
Wall: This spell casts Protect and Shell on all party members.
Rapture: Rather than causing damage to an opponent, Rapture
attaches angel wings to the enemy's back and flies it right out of the
battle. This spell is rare and doesn't work against bosses.
The End: Eliminates practically any enemy (including bosses).
Useless against undead and the final boss. 'The End' appears very rarely.
