Final Fantasy VII - Chocobos - Getting Started / Stables

Chocobos are a mini game and doesn't necessarily have to be done in order to complete the game, although will benefit you alot. You can capture Chocobos, raise them, breed them, race them and use them to locate various valuables around the world map. First of all is to get started. You need to have these following things which will help you significantly.

1) Highwind
2) About 300,000 + Gil
3) As many stables from the Chocobo farm, you can afford (I advise buying them all)
4) Some greens and nuts
5) Chocobo Lure Materia
6) Lots of time and patience

You'll need to buy stables from Choco Bill at 10,000 Gil a piece and you'll end up spending a small fortune on Greens and Nuts. It's also quite time consuming due to the cost and time it takes to train and breed Chocobos.

Chocobo Lure can be purchased from Choco Bill for 2000 Gil.

Purchase several stalls from Choco Bill (no less than three), and then begin hunting for a Chocobo. As you probably know by now, Chocobos can be found anywhere there are Chocobo tracks on the landscape. What you may not know is that each area yields Chocobos of different qualities. To breed the best, you need to find the best. Here's a quick list of the various area and the type of Chocobos you can find in each:

Chocobo Locations

Area: Classes
Chocobo Range Area Poor, Weak
Junon Area Fair, Poor
Gold Saucer Area Good, Average
Rocket Town Area Mediocre
Wutai Area Average, Fair
Icicle Inn Area Wonderful, Weak
Mideel Area Great, Fair

You can capture four Chocobos at a time, but then you'll need to return to the Chocobo Ranch to choose who the keepers are. Choco Billy will always give you his recommendation. Follow the list below to help you determine what type of Chocobo you have by interpreting Choco Billy's comments.

Chocobo Types And Assessments

Chocobo Type: Choco Billy's Assessment:
Wonderful "This...is a wonderful Chocobo!"
Great "This is a great Chocobo."
Good "Mmm, this seems like a good Chocobo."

Average "This is a pretty average Chocobo."
Mediocre "This Chocobo's so-so."
Poor "This one doesn't seem to be very good."

Once you have a selection of quality Chocobos, you'll want to feed and train them. Chocobos eat Greens, which can be found in the wild or purchased from Choco Billy and the Chocobo Sage. Greens raise one or several of a Chocobos stats. These stats include:

Speed Makes Chocobo run faster

Each of these stats are increased by Greens. To find out all about greens, visit the greens profiles section.
